Just had lunch here on the deck with my family and I was so pleased with everything! I have been to the roundhouse many many times during both winter and summer seasons over the past few years and I have to say that so far this has been the best summer experience for me. The vibe was great, the food was great, and the service was wonderful. The staff were all happy and helpful and everything seemed to flow. The deck was packed with families and hikers, good tunes, and lots of happy faces. Good job on this one SV mountain food peeps. It's workin!

Excellent view, pretty good service although the ordering process happens at the front counter with a limited 10 items on the menu. Good was not that great: Mediterranean chop - I ordered this. Probably the worst salad I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Chicken had no flavor, the veggies in the salad were sparse and it came out without dressing. Buffalo burger - this was good. My husband ordered it. The horseradish sauce and the party were a great combo. I'd come for the view. Once you're up here there really are no other options though. Salmon salad looked amazing

Took my mom up there for lunch during her first visit to Sun Valley. The ordering at the "hostess stand" is odd, and the hostess (who you pay ahead of your meal) definitely rushed us and wasn't pleasant. She seemed to sigh with impatience as we selected our beverages--since we didn't know the protocol for the up-front order-and-pay system. I could see how this system could make sense in winter, but I suggest they change it up for summer. Service was just okay. One bus-person in particular stood out. He was super-friendly, and then we later saw him at the Main St. Market, presumably working his second job! Kudos. We tipped at the table for him. Food was passable, but definitely NOT worth the Sun Valley price tag. Still, a great setting, despite the smoky haze from nearby wildfires.

Can't Beat the Views. Service Was slow and the Food is not worth the hike (or gondola).

What a rip off! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY COMING UP HERE! 1) We were required to make a reservation but when we got there they had so many seats available. I agree with another reviewer in that they make you wait to make it seem exclusive. Then they sat 5 of us at a 13 top table when there was a 5 top in the corner available. Pretty dumb. 2) TERRIBLE SERVICE! The people here have no idea what is going on. It took 20 minutes to get our beers but it took us going up to the rude bartender to get the beers. When my friend went up to the bar to ask the bartender was a jerk about it. Our waitress said she didn't know what happened to our drinks but the bartender said he never received a ticket for the beers. Although their back and forth bickering was completely unprofessional I'm willing to side with our waitress since the bartender was a jerk and overall seemed clueless and lazy. Then if you asked for anything like extra sauce it took forever to get it, basically at the end of the meal. 3) OVER PRICED FOOD! Your better off going to the sawtooth lodge for a quick bite. At least the people who work at that lodge are pleasant. The round house screwed up the steaks and the vegetables tasted like they were microwaved after being frozen. The chips they serve you are presented to look homemade but they come out of bag and still they're gross. 4) They can't add. Double check bill at this place. They charged us for an extra beer and it was harder than it needed to be to get it removed since our server was no where to be found...that was the general theme of the lunch... 5) GROSS BATHROOMS. For a 'fancy, expensive' restaurant, they had the most disgusting bathrooms. I had to hold my breath to keep myself from gagging from the smell. I've been to gas station restrooms cleaner than that place. I can understand why their bathrooms were so gross though since while I was in there so was the cleaning lady...while she chatted it up on her cell phone she also used the same damp, dirty cloth to wipe down all the surfaces from the walls, to the stalls and toilets, to the sinks..without once whipping out any Clorox...Gross 6) The only positive review I'm giving is to the water guys....man those guys were good at making sure you had plenty of water and bread. Except they kept pouring water into all the extra water glasses they left at the table or on top of the table itself as they kept missing my glass....Otherwise points to those guys for being the only people that looked busy at that restaurant. I wish Yelp would allow me to give this place worse than a one star review...they deserve ZERO STARs!!!!

This is a beautiful day out. You can only get here by gondola and it s a spiritual experience to go all the way to the top in the summer, when all is silent but the birds. Lunch here allows you to spend more time admiring the view, so ambiance alone gives it five stars. We tried the pancetta wrapped ruby red trout with roasted veg and beluga lentils. Best choice on the menu. So tasty. Also can recommend the Moroccan chicken salad with quinoa tabouli. The spice on the chicken is very nice without overwhelming you. Roasted tomatoe soup was so delicious. Wanted to take another order of it home! With a mojito and margarita thrown in, the total bill was $80 for three people. (soup, two salads, one fish, two drinks). But when we bought our lift tickets at the bottom, they have us 3 $10 lunch vouchers, bring it down to $50! With this atmosphere and food quality, it was a steal!!!!!

My Husband and I went to The Roundhouse in January 2014. As it was late in the evening, we didn't get to enjoy any views but the gondola ride to the top was fun and something different for date night. We had a reservation and were seated right away, the service was good and we got our food quickly. My lamb was delicious and the chefs made alterations to ensure that it was gluten free. I was nervous after reading mixed reviews of the restaurant but we had an amazing experience and I cant wait to go back during the daytime to enjoy the view.

This review is more so for the management of Sun Valley and Roundhouse so they can see how horrible they are making Roundhouse in the summers. 1) We show up without a reservation and ask for a table for 3. We're told its going to be a 15 minute minute wait for a table without shade on the deck, or 30-45 minutes for a table with shade. That's fine...not a big deal...except that when we get seated out on the patio there are virtually 20 tables, and only 4 of them have people seated at them. What a joke. Maybe they're trying to give the perception that the place is exclusive, etc by having us wait for no good reason at all. 2) It is really hot on that deck during the summertime, which is fine. But my problem with this place is that there were at least 8 tables under the shade that were completely empty for the duration of our lunch...and you're going to tell us that its going to be a 30 minute wait? F-off. The table immediately behind us was in the shade and had dirty plates that went un-bussed for the duration of our lunch. Seriously...you can't buss 2 plates and sit people on a table that isn't going to burn their arms? 3) Oh, and by the way, if you're going to have metal tables on the deck under the scalding sun in SUN VALLEY, maybe you should put some table cloths out so that A) you don't attract a bunch of hobos (ie, make a little effort if you're going to charge $100 prices for a lunch), but B) so that people don't get second degree burns. The bottom line with this place is that the food is actually good if it ever makes it to your table in a reasonable amount of time. It should be...they have CIA trained Chefs running the show. But more importantly, the whole EXPERIENCE is just so horrible and frustrating from a service standpoint. The service is slow, the seating management is poor, and its impossible to find people to help you. Obviously whomever is running this place needs to go back to hospitality management school. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me...keep the tables bussed, seat people if you've got the tables available, and take their orders. The ridiculous charade of whatever this place is doing is just so off-putting. Mr. Holding would make heads roll if he witnessed this. This unfortunately is not an isolated event. I go here once a year because I think somehow it will be a different experience...but it isn't. Its a royally frustrating experience every time, which is why I took the time out of my day to write this. I will be calling Sun Valley food and beverage management as well...that's how disappointing this experience was.

I cannot believe I am the first to review the Roundhouse... it's been around since 1939! If you are in the Sun Valley, Idaho area in the winter, you cannot leave without visiting this spot for lunch. Of all the restaurants I have been to on earth, this is one of my favorites. It's a bit funky, and even after a very subtle remodel, it's like stepping back in time. But the views are astounding and the food ranges from very good to spectacular. Best of all, the brand new gondola goes straight to the restaurant! It's set half way up Bald Mountain (the ski mountain) and was the original lodge for the Sun Valley ski resort. Now it is a full service restaurant and has a recently added bar called Averell's. Since it's on the mountain, and due to (I'm guessing) insurance, they are not open for dinner and are only open during the ski season. Coming in after a few hours of skiing for raclette, a nice bottle of wine and some accordion music played by the resident accordion player is truly one of the best ways to spend a winter day I know of. UPDATE: I think, starting this year (2010), the Roundhouse will be open for lunch year-round because of the new gondola.

You can't beat the setting - high up on the mountain after a pleasant gondola ride. We waited about 40 minutes for a table for 2. The restaurant was at least half empty; the maitre'd told us they can only seat so many based on the small size of the kitchen, that can't keep up with more guests. But it's a nice place to wait; walking around the building gives a whole range of spectacular views. The menu was diverse but just a little limited; the food was well-prepared and tasty. We were VERY disappointed by the service. It was slower than it should have been. Our waitress disappeared for long periods. I had to request three times to get a refill on my coke. And then it took a long time to get our check. I don't know if it was just a bad day, a bad waitress, or if this is normal for the restaurant...

"unfortunately, the new food and beverage guy destroyed this uniquely sun valley treasure...for a time, the idiot removed the fondue from the menu..."

Just returned from a disappointing experience at our old favorite, the Roundhouse. From the moment they sat us in the annex room (the former bar) the disappointments kept coming. That room lacks any charm. the point of going to the roundhouse is to actually be seated in the roundhouse. The service was from a nice guy who had little training and was overburdened. They need more waiters. He knew zero about wine. He actually put,the white wine on top of an ice bucket full to the brim with ice. He served me a red wine with cork floating in it. The wine list is reasonable priced, but with few bottles of any merit. The Heitz cab...they were out of. You know you are in trouble when there are no years given for the wines in the wine list. The place has totally changed from years past. Gone is the Austrian theme and menu. Replaced by a menu of no distinction. The food quality has fallen dramatically. My short ribs were tough and chewy. My son's strip steak was similar. His Brussel sprouts were mushy. Whatever you do, avoid the fondue appetizer. It was lacking in cheese...more like cheese flavored wine soup. The bread came as an after thought and you had to use your salad fork to dip it. After 20 years of enjoying the Roundhouse as an icon of the Sun Valley experience, we have to sadly rely on past memories. Poor service, a bad room and mediocre food render a one star review.

This restaurant on top of the mountain is super cute and cozy. The service is wonderful and friendly, offering us hot chocolate when we entered the door from the cold. I had the elk and it was great, very large portions at this restaurant. The cheese fondue was also good, but didn't come with much besides bread for dipping. My only complaints with this place are the expensive ticket for the gondola ($20 just to walk on the damn thing, but you get $10 off the price of your lunch) and though I love the accordion guy who plays in the corner, I wish he would stay there and not come over to the table.

Located half way up Baldy mountain, Roundhouse is accessible from the Warm Springs Gondola. Great for lunch and dinner. The view from Avril's bar is spectacular at night. The food is great but the atmosphere is even better. The main dining room has a multisided fireplace and raw wood beams along with antler chandeliers. I had fondue which has two choices for dipping. Next up fillet with prawns which did not disappoint. There was no charge for us to ride the Gondala. The place has been around since the 1930s and is a must for anyone coming to Sun Valley.

Love the fondue or the smoked salmon plate. Great for sharing, staff a little more snobish than River Run or Seattle Ridge Lodges, but that was our experience this year. Staff changes from ski season to ski season. We LOVE this resort.
